centella asiatica

Green round leaves with long stems arranged on a light background.

Centella asiatica, also known as Gotu Kola, has been traditionally used across Asia and Madagascar for its regenerative, neuroprotective, and anti-inflammatory properties, including support for venous circulation. Scientific research on this plant began mainly after the discovery in Madagascar of its use in treating wounds and dermatological conditions but also stomach aches and intestinal irritations. Extensive scientific research has shown that Centella asiatica originating from Madagascar contains particularly high levels of active compounds, with a Total Triterpene Percentage (TTP) often ≥10%, compared with only 2–3% typically found in other sources, as well as highlighting the crucial importance of the harvesting time.

Centella asiatica has become a cornerstone ingredient in modern skincare and cosmeceutical formulations. It is widely incorporated into international and Korean brands such as SKIN 1004 anti-aging creams, serums, moisturizers, post-procedure treatments, scar-care products, sensitive-skin formulations, sun-care products, and barrier-repair cosmetics. Scientific studies have demonstrated its ability to improve skin hydration, elasticity, firmness, and overall skin appearance while supporting wound healing and scar remodeling.
